A family in Nairobi’s Pipeline estate is reeling from shock after their daughter was brutally murdered in cold blood by her husband.
27-year-old Susan Nabwire was killed on the night of August 13, 2025, inside her rented house in Kware, Pipeline estate. The attack happened in full view of her house help and her one-year-old child.
According to relatives, Nabwire’s husband, 44-year-old Cyprian Mukoye, returned home in a foul mood that evening and began quarrelling with her. He is said to have demanded her phone, passwords, and M-Pesa PIN, accusing her of infidelity.
“They started arguing and he slapped Susan, asking for her cellphone. He then threatened her that if she wouldn’t give him the PIN, he would kill her,” recounted Philice Makokha, the mother of the deceased.
At around 3 a.m., Mukoye allegedly fetched an axe from the bathroom and struck Nabwire on the neck, leaving her with fatal injuries. Despite her pleas, he continued with the assault until she succumbed.
The suspect is also reported to have tied a rope around her neck, shoved her body under the bed, and later turned on the house help, whom he sexually assaulted before fleeing the scene. He locked the house help, the child, and his wife’s lifeless body inside the house before escaping with their mobile phones.
Police officers who responded to the incident were forced to break down the door, where they found the body. Nabwire’s remains were taken to Mama Lucy Hospital mortuary.
Family members say they are now left with the painful task of raising her one-year-old daughter, who has been orphaned by the tragedy.
Nabwire, who worked as an M-Pesa agent at Machakos Country Bus in Nairobi, had been married to Mukoye, a former police officer who was working as a casual labourer in Pipeline after losing his job.
Police have since arrested the suspect, who is being held at Embakasi Police Station pending arraignment.
“This is one tragic encounter that will haunt us forever,” said the grieving family.
