Fresh controversy has emerged surrounding the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo, after private investigators hired by his family claimed that he may not have been alone in his vehicle at the time of the fatal crash—contradicting earlier official statements.
Jirongo died following a road accident on December 13, 2025, along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway near Karai in Naivasha. His vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Coach bus, an accident that left him fatally injured. Initial police reports indicated that the former legislator was alone in the car when the crash occurred.
However, during a second funeral service held in Maili Saba, Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, Jirongo’s associates revealed that private investigators reviewing CCTV footage believe there were two occupants seated in the front of the vehicle shortly before the collision. While the footage does not clearly identify the individuals, the investigators insist the images raise serious questions about the accuracy of the official narrative.
The new claims have intensified calls for clarity and transparency from law enforcement agencies handling the case. Former Senator George Khaniri, speaking during the funeral service, questioned why authorities stated Jirongo was alone if video evidence appears to suggest otherwise. He urged investigators to re-examine all available evidence and explain the discrepancies to the public and the family.
Former MP Fred Gumo also voiced concern over what he described as a slow and unclear investigative process. He criticized the handling of the scene and suggested that crucial details that could easily be established have not yet been adequately addressed by investigators.
In response to growing public concern, Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli assured mourners and the nation that the government is committed to a thorough, professional, and transparent investigation. He emphasized that a forensic inquiry is ongoing and appealed to the public to avoid speculation while official investigations are still underway.
The article also captures the emotional weight of the loss on Jirongo’s family. Two of his widows, Christine Nyokabi and Anne Lanoi, described him as a unifying family figure and expressed deep sorrow over his sudden death. They shared personal reflections, recalling conversations they had with him shortly before the accident, particularly about family and farming, underscoring how unexpected his passing was.
As questions continue to surround the circumstances of the crash, Jirongo’s death has become a subject of national attention, with many calling for accountability and clear answers. His burial was scheduled to take place at his home in Lumakanda, Lugari Sub-County, Kakamega County, as family, friends, and supporters prepared to lay him to rest.
The unfolding developments have turned what was initially reported as a tragic road accident into a case demanding deeper scrutiny, as investigators work to establish the full truth behind the final moments of the former legislator’s life.
